Objectives & Site Considerations

The client had an existing 24V battery system installed along with a 5kW solar array, but the original installer couldn’t get the battery system to work. After exhausting options with the original installer, the client came to us to design a more suitable battery system to completely replace the existing non-functional one.

The existing Schneider inverter charger & Sonnenschein VRLA battery bank was decommissioned and removed – replaced with a new Tesla Powerwall 2 & Gateway. The existing solar array & Schneider 5kW solar inverter would remain in place and be integrated with the Powerwall battery.

• Existing 5kW solar array

Project Outcome

The client now has a fully functional battery system – providing energy security and relief from rising electricity costs. And they were also able to take advantage of the SA Home Battery Rebate, saving $3,000 upfront.

Replacing the existing VRLA batteries, cabinet, and battery inverter with the Powerwall 2 has saved a considerable amount of space along the clients’ service wall.
