PROJECT DETAIL

Objective:

Brian & Tania purchased an existing off grid home on the Great Ocean Road, but the existing off grid system on the property was too small for their needs and had to be replaced.

Speaking to The Herald Sun in March 2019, Brian said “We are already running out of electricity because we are guzzlers. We are totally off the grid, not connected at all. It is our first try at such a thing. It has taken a bit of getting used to because I like guzzling power with all sorts of technical pieces. We are going to update the system so we get a bit more power.”

Site Considerations:

The existing equipment needed to be decommissioned and removed to make space for the new system installation, and a new equipment room was built to house the batteries and inverters. Some additional trenching was also required.

System Design:

  • Selectronic SP Pro SPLC1200 Inverter Charger (15kW cont.)
  • BAE VRLA Sealed Gel Batteries (153kWh)
  • LG Neon 335W Solar Modules (29kW)
  • Fronius Primo 8.2 Solar Inverters
  • Roof mounted array framing

Summer Demand: 52.3kWh
Winter Demand: 32.33kWh
Demand Surge: 14.34kW

The objective was to offset the school’s power usage with solar and include tesla Powerwall battery storage for educational purposes as well as offsetting small overnight loads.
In April 2018 Cathy from Outback Citrus Pty Ltd brought some land in Cooltong SA. “I started preparing the land and installing irrigation to begin planting my first section of Almonds in July.
