PROJECT DETAIL

Load Analysis
Ave Summer Demand: 17.9kWh/day
Ave Winter Demand: 37.4kWh/day
Demand Surge: 12.16VA

Objectives & Site Considerations

The clients were building a new home in the Snowy Mountains, and required an off grid system to supply power, as a grid connection wasn’t a viable option.

The clients had a significant winter load, with an electric heat pump underfloor heating system for the cold winters at this location. The underfloor heating was combined with a wetback on the fireplace in order to increase its energy efficiency.

System Design

Solar arrays were installed on multiple roof orientations in order to optimise solar production over the day, and also for all four seasons.

  • Selectronic Inverter/Chargers (15kW)
  • REC 325W Solar Modules (15.93kW)
  • Fronius Primo 8.2 Solar Inverter
  • Fronius Primo 4.0 Solar Inverter
  • PowerPlus Eco Batteries (41.4kWh)
  • Selectronic Select.Live monitoring
  • Flush Roof-Mount Solar Framing

Project Outcome

The system was installed on the house and shed during the building process, to provide power before the clients moved in.

The clients have reported that the system has easily coped with the initial start up phase of the hydronic underfloor heating and was able to bring the slab up to temperature as designed without generator support. The client chose a Kohler 15kVA diesel genset as their backup generator.
