Little Dog Island Remote Solar Power System
This tiny island off Flinders Island in the Bass Strait was an exciting adventure for our team to provide off-grid power to the only cabin on the island.
Objectives & Site Considerations:
This tiny island off Flinders Island in the Bass Strait was an exciting adventure for our team to provide off-grid power to the only cabin on the island. “The guy with the barge” was hired, along with the customers’ own boat, to get all the equipment and our team on site. It was truly a team effort with everyone lending a hand to get such heavy, awkward equipment from boat, to beach, to cabin.
Load Analysis:
Average summer demand: 6.4kWh
Average winter demand: 4.5kWh
Demand surge: 6.9kW
System Design:
- Victron Quattro 8kW inverter/charger
- BYD Premium LVS batteries (8kWh)
- Trina solar modules (3.12kW)
- Victron SmartSolar MPPT charge controller
- Victron online VRM monitoring
